Michael Jamaine Rumph   -   Miami
ROUND 1 PICK 27 OVERALL 27

2000: 40 tkl 1 int 10 pbu

1999: 75 tkl 4 int 4 pbu
Started every game. All-Big East Conference second-team. Made eight or more tackles in six games.

1998: 20 tkl 1 int 5 pbu
Started 3 games, played in 11 games. Freshman All-American first-team.

HIGH SCHOOL:  1997: 108 tkl 6 int 3 FF
All-American. Lettered in football, basketball, and track. Also played HB.

COMMENTS: Rumph is a very gifted athlete. He’s a big, physical corner, who ran track at High School, and also ran track for the Hurricanes. Has a good technique and has an excellent work ethic. But his major problem is that he’s ready, there doesn’t look to be a section of his game that looks as if it could drastically improve in the pros, what you see is what you get. But an upside to this is that he is ready to start straight away. A very safe pick.

WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: Terry Donahue will use Rumph in multiple WR sets, moving Webster into the slot.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Expect Rumph to seriously challenge Webster during camp, and in 2003, Rumph should be starting.

Saleem Rasheed   -   Alabama  JUNIOR
ROUND 3 PICK 4 OVERALL 69

Height: 6’2”
Weight: 229 lbs
40: 4.6
DOB: 15 June 1981
Hometown: Birmingham, Alabama
Major: Management

2001: 114 tkl 7 tfl 2 sack
Started every game at MLB. All-American third-team. Coaches All-SEC team and Academic All-SEC first selection.

2000: 81 tkl 4 tfl
 Started 10 games, played in 11 at MLB. All-SEC second-team. Academic All-SEC first-team.

1999: 84 tkl 8 tfl 3 sack
Started every game at OLB. SEC All-Freshman team. SEC Defensive Freshman of the year.

HIGH SCHOOL:  1998: 157 tkl 17 tfl 15 sacks
  1997: 142 tkls 6 sacks
All-American. Led team in tackles for four straight years. Also played HB.

COMMENTS: Plays like a MLB, but is too small and could be moved to OLB, but played both at the Crimson Tide. Another great athlete. Has great speed and is an excellent blitzer. Has brilliant instincts and possesses a lot of strength. Needs to improve his pass coverage to really threaten for a starting position, but his size is his major weakness. A great pickup in the third round.

WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: A replacement for Terry Killens and a backup for Derek Smith and Julian Peterson.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Will have a similar role to what Winborn had last season, challenge the starters, and a nice backup to have if one goes down. Could really challenge the starters in a couple of years time.
