Disfunzioni
Musicali - (Via degli Etruschi, 4-14
; not far from Termini Rail Station) It is probably the most important record shop in Rome for
rock and alternative music, but you can find nearly anything, from italian
pop to the most extreme forms of music; unfortunately, in the last years,
the gothic and industrial sector has been nearly abandoned; anyway you
can find here many flyers for any kind of concert or night. The 2nd hand
store is the widest in Rome, but the prices are sometimes a little bit
too high; lately, I have seen some sales, but you need a little of time
and patience.
Coemeterivm
- (Via
dell'Arco De' Ginnasi 2, two steps from Largo di Torre Argentina) Until
two years ago, in this place there was Robot, the first record store in
Rome dedicated to industrial, gothic and electronic music. This experience
ceased to exist, and was substituted by Coemeterivm; it originally was
just a record and CD store entirely dedicated to gothic and industrial,
but it was too specialized for a city like Rome, so, after some months
of activity and some more months of closure, they rose again from their
ashes: same name, same place but a little different formula: they also
sell some dresses, objects, used books… You can also find the owners like
dj's at Bunny's pub on a wednsday. Take a
look at their site, which
contains their catalog and maybe soon some CD reviews.
Electric
Sound - (Via Mario Menghini 59, not
far from metro station Colli Albani) When you enter, don't get frightened:
it seems to be just a pop CD store, but if you immediately go in the little
room in front of you on the right you will find some metal, gothic, industrial,
jungle and electronic music. The prices are not so low, but you can find
here something that is hard to find in Rome. The guys are really kind,
and will let you hear almost anything you want, so just ask!
Just
Like Heaven - (Via di Tor Pignattara,
55) Although it is small, it one of the stores in Rome for altenrative
music of any kind, and for sure has the best choice for gothic. They also
have an interesting section of 2nd hand CD's and of vynil, and good prices.
You can download their catalog at http://www.meloni.com/jlh/home.htm.
Revolver
- (Via S. Gherardi 90/102, near Viale
Marconi) Good choice of rock, wave, alternative and metal, and many 2nd
hand CD's. They have neither a gothic nor an industrial section (you will
find Laibach inside new wave). The prices are not so low.
Pink
Moon - (Via Antonio Pacinotti, 3/c,
near Piazza della Radio) You can find several genres of music here, and
the 2nd hand section is rich enough. You can find many 2nd hand vynils
too and rarities.
Other
stores and markets
Bacillario
- (Via Laurina , near Piazza
del Popolo) I think it is the only shop in Rome dedicated to fetish and
gothic clothes. It is quite small and I don't think it has a big choice.
Esoteric
Bookshop - (Via di S. Eustachio, 5)
Someone likes to call the street in which you can find this library "Little
esoteric square". The bookshop is small, but has a big choice. On the
same side of the street you can find the wine bar called "Spiriti", where
some years ago Gargoyle worked as a gothic dj (he now works in London,
at the Gossips)
OuroBoros
- (Via di S. Eustachio, 15) In the same
street, there is this laboratory, where they work on metals (mainly silver)
and stones: if you are in the nearbies, go and have a look.
Profondo
Rosso - (Via ) It
is Dario Argento's store. You can find books and magazines dedicated to
horror and science fiction, monsters of any kind, elves from Norway and
many other objects. In the cellar, there is a little museum dedicated to
Argento's films.
La
Bottega di Marco Polo - (Via dei Chiavari
31, near Largo di Torre Argentina) They mainly sell clothes from Nepal,
but you can find nice shirts and velvet jackets, shirts and oaks.
Via
Sannio - (Monday to saturday mornings;
two steps from S. Giovanni in Laterano) It is a market where you can mainly
find new and 2nd hand clothes (leather too).
Porta
Portese - (Sunday morning, between Viale
Trastevere and Via Portuense) Very big open air market where you can find
nearly anything you want, if you are lucky: clothes, records & CD's,
bric a brac and enything else. If you don't want to be overwhelmed by an
enormous crowd, you have to go early (let's say before 8 a.m.), but I have
to confess that I never woke up so early. Beware the pickpockets!
Via
del Governo Vecchio - It is a road in
the centre, not far from Piazza Navona; there are some anitquities shops,
and two or three 2nd hand clothes stores, where you can sometimes find
something interesting.
