Fancher and Peoples

President of Tyrell Corporation, a true genius. He is the one who designs replicants' mind. Tyrell lives atop a pyramid, a monument to himself, Tyrell Corporation Building.

The sixth generation of androids, namely Nexus-6, is his latest masterpiece. The new characteristic of this breed is implanted memories. Tyrell believes he's doing the replicants a favor by giving them memories, but this gift of memory has a more selfish purpose: "If we gift them with a past... we create a cushion or pillow for their emotions... and we can control them better". So Tyrell plays God, creating replicants that look and act human, complete with memories, but not emotions, which could lead to free will. He controls them with a "fail safe device," a four year life span. Batty and company want an end to Tyrell's tyrannical control of their life span and learning that Tyrell can't extend it past four years, Batty kills him.

Joe Turkel played Tyrell's character. He was selected for the role because Ridley loved his amazing appearance as a drunkard in The Shining. Technically speaking, Joe Turkel was a nightmare. Ridley didn't know, but he was completely incapable to learn his cues by heart. Every set he was working in, had to be filled up with notes everywhere, so that he could read his dialogues. In fact just look at his eyes in the scenes he played. Always looking at his notes.
