Dal libretto: "A Change Of Seasons, era stata scritta originariamente nel 1989 insieme a "Metropolis - Pt.1", e doveva essere inclusa in "Images & Words". Dopo molte riflessioni, ritardi, due performances live nel 1993 e molte rivisitazioni del brano nel Maggio scorso, abbiamo finalmente avuto l'opportunità di registrarlo. Per ricreare l'atmosfera di "Images & Words", abbiamo radunato David Prater, Doug Oberkircher e i Bear Traks Studios." La seconda parte di questo disco é tratta dall'"Uncovered Show" che abbiamo fatto al "Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club" a Londra lo scorso Gennaio ". A Change Of Seasons é una delle canzoni più belle e significative della band. Inoltre, la più lunga (ben 23 minuti e 06 secondi!). La divisione del brani in "movimenti" ha permesso alla band di creare una gamma vastissima di sonorità e stili all'interno di un'unica canzone, andando così incontro a qualcosa di completamente nuovo. La canzone è ricchissima di assoli e di riff difficilissimi, di arpeggi articolati. Il testo, di Mike Portnoy, è un'eccezionale storia, ricca di significato e di metafore. "Carpe Diem!"
