The site of Altojanni (or Altogianni) is near St. Antonio Abate’s Sanctuary.  According to some local historians, once upon a time Altojanni was a fortified village.

During the first half of the seventeenth century, a disastrous earthquake and later on a terrible pestilence marked the end of Altojanni.

In fact, the village was abandoned forever. So far, this is all we know about its past.

At present, all we have about Altojanni are the rest of a fortification that, erroneously, is called the “tower”, some remains of walls and fortifications.

Silent testimonies concerning a disappeared community. From the ruins you enjoy a magnificent view over valleys of the rivers Basento and Bilioso.
