The MS-21C is a mobile suit built for space and in space it sees his only use. This weapon has been developed and produced by the Zion forces that didn't surrender at the end of the One Year War in U.C. 0080, in particular it is largely used by the Delaz Fleet in U.C. 0083 during the Operation Stardust, as depicted in the "Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories" OAV series. The odd appearance of this vehicle, halfway between a humanoid mobile suit and a space fighter, is due to the ragtag material which the MS-21C is based upon: parts of other mobile suits, unfinished prototypes, starship weapons and engines. Everything that the Zionist rebels could get their hand on, in order to built a small army of fast and reliable mobile weapons. The resulting Dra-C is a light armoured and fast mobile suit, quite well manoeuvrable in space, but clearly outclassed and outmatched by the new technology of the modern Federal mobile suit, that in fact cut through their ranks as a knife through butter.
The only existing model kit for this mobile suit is a very expensive and quite impossible to find resin garage kit. So I decided to make my own Dra-C, using the stuff that I could find around (a little like those rebel Zionic techs). I started using a Zaku Mine Layer, from the Bandai Mobile Suit Variation series (see cover next page), and went on from there. All the details and a large photographic documentation of the long process of building this model will be soon available in the 'How to... make a full scratchbuilt model!' in the HOW TO... section of this site. This model has been the winner for the Science Fiction and Fantasy section of a big model making contest held in Rome, Italy, a few years ago.
