The
MSZ-0101 is the third transformable mobile suit
prototype assigned from Anaheim Electronics to
A.E.U.G., following the Metas and Z Gundam. It is
surely the most complex and powerful of the three,
combining the Wave Rider transformable technology
with the Core System, a transformable central unit
present only in older Gundams. This mobile suit is
the star of the series bearing the same name and
set in U.C. 0088-89, which didn't achieve the
widespread success of other Gundam series, despite
a great mecha design.
When I bought this model I thought that the High
Grade label really stood for a better kit.
Actually, it means that the model is made of
precolored plastic and is transformable. You can
forget good proportions, fidelity to the original
design or to the new improved design shown in the
instructions. To put it mildly, I had to modify
almost every single part of this model to get
something decent. The decision to maintain the
model's transformability didn't help. In fact this
nightmare project took 6 months and a lot of stress
on my part.
