Film making is always constituted by an endless series of compromises. Since there is always not enough money and time, the film is often released with mistakes and errors. Even Blade Runner shows a lot of imperfections or evident errors. We are now showing a list of mistakes from Blade Runner for readers' own fun. Paul M. Sammon's book Future Noir was used as a reference for this section.
1. As the spinner begins to purge, the cables can be seen lifting the full size mockup skyward. One is connected to the front part of the vehicle, the other to rear. An error noticed by Scott and the editor but left in because the scene seemed to work even with the visible wires.
2. As Gaff and Deckard take off from the Noodle Bar, the police HQ can be seen in the upper right hand corner of the screen, and besides the the police building in this shot, there's the out of scale shot of the hotel building were Leon lived, but the inscription here says Nuyok instead of Yukon.
3. Gaff's lips move with no sound during the flight to the Police Station. Originally in this scene Gaff had to mock Deckard.
4. Rachel's lips move with no sound during her first meeting with Deckard, when he asks if the owl is synthetic. "Of course it is", answers Rachael. Originally the dialogue was "Of course it is not", that's because Tyrell could afford a real animal. The reason why Rachael's word had been changed is that Director Scott wanted to make everybody understand that Tyrell Corp's products are identical to the originals.
5. The first scene where Batty appears, a close-up of his cramping hand, while he is inside a phone booth, is actually from the bathroom scene at the Bradbury and the shot of his face is actually from the scene on the bed with Tyrell, but mirrored.
6. The titles on marquee of the Million Dollar Movie change between the shots of Pris hiding in rubbish and Sebastian's scene he is arriving by lorry. This is because the shots at the Bradbury building went on for over a week, and during that week, the cinema changed movie.
7. Pris's crash into the armadillo van was an accident that caused her to tear her tendons in her elbow!
8. Pris's hair jumps back and forth from being very wet (in the scene she stands in front of Sebastian) to dry inside the Bradbury building (as soon as they exit the elevator).
9. The actress used for the esper scene is not Joanna Cassidy, the real actress who played Zhora. Instead of her, there is a stand in used for the dangerous scenes. Furthermore, Rutger Hauer only appears in the first shot of the esper scene. In the other shots there's another actor.
10. Besides the fact that the snake scale is actually a female canabas seed, the serial number at the base of one of its spines is slightly different than the one spoken by the cambodian woman.
11. I wonder how the actor who portrayed Omar Ben Hassan felt after the release of Blade Runner in 1982 when he discovered he was not only in what could be considered the worst dubbed scene with Harrison Ford, but also discovered, I imagine to his dismay, that his name appeared no where within the credits
12. During the scene when Deckard chases down Zhora there are a lot of mistakes. Firstly Zhora wears high heels in the dressing room. Than, in the chase, her boots have no heels at all. During the glass scene, they cut to her stunt double, a woman who looks nothing like Joanna Cassidy, in fact she looks like a man, and it is a man. At last Deckard miraculously hits Zorah not only in the same shoulder twice, but in the same hole!
13. Deckard's scar from Leon's fight is already there after Zhora's death and before the fight has taken place.
14. Just before Rachael shoots Leon, you can see two nylon wires coming out of Leon's makeup on his forehead. They were used to keep the hole in Leon's front open.
15. When Deckard falls asleep on his bed, he holds a drink on his chest. But when he wakes up the drink has vanished. He holds in his hand a Tsing-Tao bottle when he stands up.
16. Pris's make-up lightly changes for three times: when she makes it for the first time, when she looks in the microscope and when she has breakfast with Roy and Sebastian.
17. The pyramid scene with Sebastian and Roy shows it daytime and an orange sky, and than when they are permitted in by Tyrell, the sky is dark blue.
18. Chess pieces don't match between Sebastian's scene and Tyrell's.
19. Cables on spinner in front of Deckard's spinner are still there! If they didn't take'em out in the first scene, why take'em out now?
20. Just after Batty stabs his hand with a stub, he looks at his left side. Here you can see the yellow and black tiled wall of the bathroom, but he has never entered the bathromm!
21. Deckard's hands holding stone outside the Bradbury were shot upside down!
22. Rain shuts on and off during roof scene.
23. Deckard's shirt is up, disclosing Ford's belly and then down inside his trousers after Roy throws him away.
24. At last, one of the most famous mistakes. As Roy dies, he releases the dove, which flies up and out of the stormy night into the sunny blue sky. That's because this shot has been taken some months later with another dove in England. The former dove was to wet to fly. |
