Esce When The Wind Blows, colonna sonora dell'omonimo film a disegni animati diretto da Jimmy T. Murakaimi, nella quale Roger Waters compone le canzoni nella seconda facciata dell'album, accompagnato dalla The Bleeding Heart Band.

Durante una riunione del consiglio di amministrazione della Pink Floyd Music Ltd., che si occupava delle transazioni finanziarie legate ai membri dei Floyd dal 1973, Waters venne a conoscenza dell'apertura di un nuovo conto in banca che doveva finanziare il nuovo progetto dei Pink Floyd. Nella serata di Ognissanti del 1986, Waters iniziò la sua battaglia legale per negare l'uso del nome Pink Floyd ai suoi "ex-colleghi".

2 Gennaio 1987
Dopo che Waters venne a sapere che gli altri componenti del gruppo erano entrati in studio per incidere col marchio Pink Floyd, si rivolse all'alta corte di Londra, che in questa data diede ufficialmente l'autorizzazione a sciogliere il gruppo. Gli avvocati di Waters, intanto diramarono questo comunicato: "I Pink Floyd hanno registrato un certo numero di album di grande successo tra il 1967 e il 1983, tra i quali The Wall e The Dark Side of The Moon. Roger Waters è stato il principale autore e produttore degli album cosi come ne è stato la voce solista (?!?..mah)e la principale forza creativa. La disputa con gli altri componenti dei Pink Floyd stà seguendo il suo corso in tribunale per risolvere la questione sui diritti del nome e sui beni attivi del gruppo che comprendono i molti effetti scenici usati in passato". Dopo questo comunicato David Gilmour ricorre in appello e una nuova sentenza ridà pieno titolo a Gilmour e Mason di continuare a incidere col nome Pink Floyd. Oltre a ritenere le motivazioni di Waters non sufficenti a determinare lo scioglimento del gruppo, si scoprì anche che la Pink Floyd Music Inc. non era stata regolarizzata ai fini legali, perciò Waters non aveva nessun diritto di sciogliere il gruppo.

Esce il nuovo album dei Pink Floyd, A Momentary Lapse of Reason
Prima dello show d'apertura, che fù annullato a causa della ritardata pubblicazione dell'album, i Pink Floyd provarono per quattro settimane in un magazzino doganale il cui affitto, pare, costò 70.000 dollari. Tra gli effetti speciali degli show all'aperto era previsto un enorme disco volante che avrebbe dovuto librarsi in volo sulle teste degli spettatori. Motivi di sicurezza ne impedirono l'utilizzo.

Per l'ultima volta fino alla fine del tour europeo del 1989 fù replicato lo schianto di un bombardiere Stuka al culmine di On The Run. In questo periodo fù sostituito da un ampio letto. Inoltre, rispetto agli spettacoli successivi, la gigantesca struttura del palco comprendeva anche radar girevoli a forma di piatto, semafori a luce intermittente e antenne radio.

Lo show del 5 novembre fù ripreso con 23 videocamere Panavision. L'intero concerto doveva essere trasmesso da diverse TV europee ma all'ultimo momento, per motivi sconosciuti, fù ritirato. Dal film furono realizzati video promozionali con The Dogs Of War, On The Turning Away e One Slip. Altre esecuzioni di questo concerto (Run Like Hell, The Dogs Of War e On The Turning Away) furono invece usate come retri di 45 giri.
