In the south of
Italy, near Naples, in a small town under
the feet of Mt. Vesuvius, Torre del
Greco, on
February
19th, 1910 Gaetano Scognamiglio was born.
Although his parents were
both doctors, at the young age of 15, he started
having great interest in business, until when in 1928, at
the age of 18, he started manufacturing coral and cameos and
established his own company with the name of GASCO (GAetano
SCOgnamiglio).
Great willpower, a
humble character and great dedication to his work were the qualities which
helped his company to become bigger and bigger
In 1950's
Gaetano's sons, Rosario and Michele started helping him, who was very busy with
his frequent business trips abroad, which at the time lasted days only to move from
a country to another.
In 1985 company
name changed from GASCO to CASCO, but the dedication to work was
always the
same, obtaining the same great results.
After the death of Gaetano, who
continued working until his last days, happened on October 23rd, 1999 Rosario's
son, Paolo started working as sales manager in the company, and thanks to his
Japanese and English speaking attitudes improved company
contacts with Japan and
America.
The shell and coral carving center of
CASCO s.r.l. uses a method thousands of years old. The use of steel
gravers with handles, fitting the hand, are used in a timeless tradition of
master craftsmanship. The master carver will select the shell to be used,
outline the number of cameos to be obtained from that shell, and then supervise
the entire carving process. With these incredibly sharp precision tools,
the most intricate details can be obtained. This explains why cameos have
turned out to be such an "INVESTMENT" to be handed down from
generation to generation.
No matter what profile or scene
you choose, it is sure to be an "INVESTMENT" that will be cherished.
Cameo jewellery is not only an investment
for the purchaser but a gift for the next generation!
