The cheapest way to program for Pocket PCThe cheapest CE unit that i found to program using NSbasic CE for the
new Pocket PC. The Compaq 1550.When Pocket PC was launched during the Aprile 2000, the users attention
was addressed to the new palm units particularly created to run the new
Operating System.
New models from Casio,HP e Compaq were shown, even if not all of them
immediately available, to present the new generation of PalmPC powered
by WinCE 3.0.
Among the new models there were also an old, well known Compaq CE
unit that have been upgraded.
Il Compaq Aero 1550 .
The no color screen and the low speed of the CPU at 70 Mhz does not
allowed to this model to get the attention of the users who liked to use the
new products but, the low cost and the possibility to upgrade an old 1500
done of the Compaq 1550 a good unit to develop programs using the new
Pocket PC.
After some months elapsed, i am still sure that what i thought is valid.
I do not want to analyze here the features of this product (you can find on
line many better sites to read them) but i want only specify the reasons
owing to i consider this unit the better to program under CE system.
Clearly what i am saying has no value if you program games or graphic
for Pocket PC (remember the missing colore and the slow CPU) but if you
develop utilities or programs that do not nees said features this model
may be a good instrument.
In thi last case you will not get problems due to the missing color screen
while the low speed may force you to better optimize your code that will
run also better on units that offer CPU over the 70 Mhz.
Do not forget the tiny dimensions, an acceptable working time for the
battery and 1 slot for Card Tipo 1 and you will get the unit Windows CE
very good to program anywhere and anytime that i said according to the
NSBasic declaration..
