Tiffany talc bottle this sterling silver talc bottle was made by Tiffany & Co. - New York. It bears the mark TIFFANY & CO. 17690 MAKERS 4925 STERLING SILVER 925-1000 M in use in the period 1907/1938 and is engraved on the front A-L-D.
The firm was founded in 1837 by Charles L. Tiffany with John B. Young under the name Tiffany & Young. In 1851 John C, Moore & Son. (a silverware manufacturer since 1827) entered into a special business relationship with Tiffany's. In 1868 when Tiffany was incorporated Moore became part of the organization with Edward C. Moore becoming one of its directors. The silverware made in the factory bore not only the mark "Tiffany & Co." but also the letter "M". Following the death of Edward C. Moore in 1891 the surname of the initials of the incumbent president was included as part of the Tiffany trademark. This practise was discontinued after 1965.
The talc bottle is 3 1/2 in. high (cm. 9) and was bought from an US dealer through internet.
