ADSL modem drivers for
Linux
Alcatel Speedtouch USB
The drivers are included from Linux M
andrake
9.1 onwards, you can use darkconnect to install them during
installation of the
OS or from the Mandrake Control Center.
Don't download the mgmt.o file from the Alcatel web site as the
Mandrake installer says, instead get it from the CD provided with your modem, it's in the
drivers directory, and copy the file alcaudsl.sys to
/usr/share/speedtouch and rename it mgmt.o (You can also download a
copy of this file from
here,
It comes from the driver CD provided with the modem)
To connect, reboot and as root run net_monitor, it will probably
say the connection is failed, this is just a net_monitor bug, just wait
30-40 seconds and your computer will be on line. To end the connection
just click on the disconnect icon of net_monitor
To manually connect from a shell, run, as root
modem_run -m -f /usr/share/speedtouch/mgmt.o && pppd call adsl

ECI ADSL drivers (Supports
lots of modems from different manufactures)
There
is an open source driver for modem using the ECU chipset and similar.
This driver supports over 32 ADSL modem on linux, it has good
documentation.
It's a user mode driver so
installation is very easy, there are binary. It comes as RPMs, tgz, deb
or source. It also has a GUI configuration tool, but you must install
the tcl/tk libraries before using
it. It's really cool so if you don't know if your modem is supported
you could have a go with this driver.
