features more than many people think or write !!
A few month ago we wondered about the funny unused digital i/o pin connector on our
soundcard - and noticed a CREATIVE present:
a digital in/out interface!
But how to use it???
That's why we developed a simple and nice priced interfacecard with optical and coax
in/out, so now you can easily connect MD, CD, DAT or any other digital sound device to
your computer!!!
Moreover, the SBlive! Player1024 / Value plus the POCAB
enables more functions than the pure full version (OK, except a midi port)..
The only restriction is: you can not use coax and optical in at the same time, because the
SBlive! has got only one SPDIF-in!
All you have to do is connect the adapter with your SBlive! (this already ensures current connection, no further plugs are needed!). The board is screwed up instead of a slot cover at the back of your computer. Finish!
There is no need to install new software, because the actual SBlive! driver versions are sufficient. A final activation of SPDIF IN in the mixer settings will do it.
Many audio devices already have got optical in/out, especially compact high-fi devices, mini disc and DAT recorders. And who would not like to hear the own various MP3 files from the high-fi rack or record them to MD in digital quality? Maybe you like to store some of your DAT or MD recordings to a CD-R?
The advantage of optical signal transmission is clear:
There are no "buzzing loops" (germ.: "Brummschleifen") caused by
electrical coupling of computer and audio devices. The cables cannot couple electrical
e.g. to parallel telephone lines or power supply cables. Any electrical coupling with
noise sources is impossible!!!
This means a loss-free transmission of the signal from Computer to DAT (or other) and in
the back direction.
The advantage of coaxial signal transmission is the fact
that coaxial plugs are found in a big amount of devices instead of optical connectors.
An other advantage is the low price of the cables; shilded cinch cables like they are used
for video are sufficient.
The disadvantage is that all the devices are slightly different which may cause problems.
(Optical connections donīt suffer from these problems.)
