1997: 1-1 (100%) XP 1 point
HIGH SCHOOL: Played WR, K and P. Jacksonville All-Academic team. Lettered in soccer and tennis. COMMENTS: Exactly what the niners need. Has a nice kickoff leg, consistent from 45-50 yards, a clutch performer, has a quick kicking release and has great FG height. Florida’s all time leading scorer. Does miss too many extra points, but other than that, he’s a premier kicker. WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: Someone to seriously challenge Jose Cortez and Jamie Rheem. WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Chandler will beat both Cortez and Rheem easily, and hold the 49ers kicking job, and hopefully, unlike the past, when it’s contract time, they’ll pay him and stop the 49ers rotating door policy on kickers.
Kevin Curtis Texas Tech
2001: 99 tkl 4 int 5 pbu
2000: 121 tkl 2 int 13 pbu
1999: 153 tkl 3 int 6 pbu
1998: 45 tkl 1 int 4 pbu
1997: REDSHIRT HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. Played quarterback. COMMENTS: Aggressiveness is Curtis’
main positive; he is an intense tackler and a mean blitzer. He is a good
run stopper, but needs major work on pass defending, but his tackling gives
him a major upside and will give prospective teams something to work around.
A team leader and lead the defence and is versatile, can play FS and SS.
Works hard. Reminds me a bit of Lance Shulters, except quieter off field.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN: I wouldn’t be overly surprised if he ended up starting in one or two seasons.
Brandon Domon
Brigham Young
2001: 261-408 comp 65% 3542 yrds

2000: 57-92 comp 55% 782 yrds 2 TD

1999: Played 10 games at HB
1998: 1-2 comp 50% 30 yrds 1 int
HIGH SCHOOL: Gatorade Player of the
Year in Utah. All-American. Lettered in football, basketball, and track.
Regional high jump champion. Played quarterback and free safety. After
high school, went on a religious mission to Argentina for two years.
WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: To fight for the third QB spot with Gio Carmazzi and Aaron Garcia. WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Don’t expect him to get cut, even if the niners need to keep 4 QBs. Won’t be a starter because of his poor arm strength. A career backup.
Josh Shaw
Michigan State
Height: 6’2”
2001: 49 tkl 8 tfl
2000: 67 tkl 8 tfl 2 sacks
1999: 61 tkl 4 tfl
1998: 31 tkl 3 tfl 1 sack
HIGH SCHOOL: 1997: 132 tkl
27 tfl 15 sacks
COMMENTS: Has great pursuit speed. Bats balls down at the line of scrimmage. Positions his body well and possesses good strength. He isn’t too big which is his major weakness and needs to work on his pass rushing skills. A knee injury lowered his draft stock from a second rounder until the fifth. WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: This season he will see limited time due to his knee injury. WHAT WILL HAPPEN: What has happened to Tai Streets, who’s draft stock also dropped due to a pre-draft injury. Wont see much time this season, and will slowly be worked into the teams rotation.
Mark Anelli
Wisconcin
Height: 6’3”
2001: 35-357 3TD
2000: 10-78
1999: 3-46
1998: Played in 4 games 1997: REDSHIRT HIGH SCHOOL: Honor roll student COMMENTS: Team captain, who excels in special teams coverage. Is great blocking TE with soft hands. Needs to become stronger to really make an impact with the niners. WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: A special teams blocker and a third TE. WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Chances are in a few years he wont be here.
Eric Heirmann
Stanford
Height: 6’3”
2001: Started at LG. All-American first-team. All PAC-10 first-team. 2000: Started at LG. All PAC-10 second-team. 1999: Started at RG. All PAC-10 honourable mention. 1998: Played every game at OG HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in football and track. All-American COMMENTS: Heitmann is an intelligent player, but needs to add on bulk for him to be more of an impact for the 49ers. He has strong legs and a great ability to get downfield to block. Really has to hit the weights to bulk up and get more upper body strength. WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: A backup OG. WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Will be groomed to take over from Ron Stone when he retires.
Kyle Blaine Kosier
Arizona
Height: 6’4”
2001: Started 11 games at RT. All PAC-10 honourable mention 2000: Started 11 games at RG. 1999: Played in 10 games. Started last 2 games at RG. 1998: Played one game at LT. Moved from defence to offence. 1997: REDSHIRT HIGH SCHOOL: All-Arizona team. Lettered in football, baseball, basketball and track. Captained football and baseball teams. Played defense. COMMENTS: Tough, mobile and plays hard. Isn’t a pretty player, but he plays hard every down. Has a major desire to play and is a good athlete. Isn’t big and strong enough to be a immediate impact. WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: A backup. WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Another that will be groomed to challenge in a few years time for a starting position.
Teddy Gains
Tennessee
Height: 5’11”
2001: 29 tkl 6 pbu
2000: 35 tkl 1 int 8 pbu
1999: 16 tkl 3 pbu
1998: Played 12 games on special teams. COMMENTS: A high school and college sprinter, so he has speed. Played mainly on special teams. But he still hasn’t matured as most would have hoped. He lacks strength and ideally should bulk up. Needs to be more physical. Needs a lot of work on his technique. WHAT THE 49ERS EXPECT: A special teams player. WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Gains is a player that will have to watch and learn for a couple of seasons before he will have any impact on the team. He’ll play special teams for a few years and then will be looked at to see if he’s improved any.
