Although
little is known about the life of Hippocrates, it is certain he has influenced
many lives, and still does today. This is exhibited by the Hippocratic Oath,
which is still used today as an ethics code for physicians. His numerous works
helped disprove hypotheses that were false, and could not be backed by logical
evidence. If the writings of Plato, Aristotle, and Menon had not been discovered,
Hippocrates's wise insights would not have been carried on for future
generations, and there is no doubt his influence increased the complexity of
modern medicines. In an atmosphere of great philosophers like Empedocles and
Democritus, Hippocrates was a pioneer in making medicine a scientific matter not
a philosophical matter.
