This model is named Tąrrega. Such name, due to a Reinaldo Di Giorgio's initiative, who decided to dedicate an instrument to a famous spanish guitar player called Francisco Tąrrega. The guitar was built in 1985 and I bought it on march 1st 2004. The Tąrrega guitar, has a curious peculiarity: it has an oval hole. This particular shape confers a particular sound to the instrument, also due to the presence of a narrow wood-band, called risounder, that surrounds, from the inside, the oval hole. Such hole (click on thumbnails to enlarge images and to see details) is made precious by a national mosaic. The resonance chamber and the bridge are made of Jacarandą da Bahia, while the harmonic board is made of Red Cedar. The keybord is in Ebony da India and the neck is in Cedar. The peculiarity of this guitar, is that it has an internal electrification realized by Di Giorgio's liuther Josč de Paula. The amplification system, is the same used on Talent SL-1 and SL-2 models. The head has the usual hand-made wood carving. The machine head, in golden steel, has exagonal ambered keys. The instrument measures: height cm 99; max width cm 36,5; resonance chamber depth cm 10,5. Weight kg. 1,900.

Di Giorgio brand, represents the finest expression of high-class guitar lutemaking. The "Romeu Di Giorgio" factory, was established in 1908 and many of the most famous brasilian artists helped to write Di Giorgio's history. My guitar (click on thumbnails to enlarge images and to see details) was built in 1972 and it has been signed by Reinaldo Di Giorgio senior. This model, named Autor n° 3, is charaterized by an incomparable sound. The resonance chamber and the bridge are made of Jacarandą, while the harmonic board is made of Fir-wood. The keyboard is in Ebony and the neck is in Cedar. The machine head, very particular and accurate, has rounded keys in pinked mother-of-pearl. The head, smooth and black, is borded with a white braiding. In the late 70's, the guitar was imported in Turin - Italy where it was forgotten into a cellar of an ancient building for more than 20 years. On december 2002 the guitar was descovered by a music-shop keeper who gave it new life and brought the instrument into his shop. I bought it on May, 17th 2003. The instrument measures: height cm 99; max width cm 37; resonance chamber depth cm 10. Weight kg. 1,750.

Di Giorgio - Bel Som n° 36 Di Giorgio - Bel Som n° 36 Di Giorgio - Bel Som n° 36 Di Giorgio - Bel Som n° 36 Di Giorgio - Bel Som n° 36

This model is named Bel Som n° 36 and was made in 1984. The age of this instrument can be deduced by the inner label which indicates, as usual, the year of production. This instrument is 20 years old, so it has a particular value also considering that it belongs to a limited production (as well as models Havana, Amazonia and Guarany). The aged wood, has determined a warmer and softer sound, while in the most recent models, the sound is more dry and tense. The harmonic board is in Oregon Pine, the resonance chamber, the bottom, the sides and the keyboard are in Jacarandą da Bahia. The neck is in cedar. The steel machine has round motherpearled keys. The hole is made procious by a oversized national mosaic. The head has a wood carving. Its back has the factory neme: Di Giorgio. The guitar has an excellent sound due to the good quality of the aged wood. I bought this instrument on march 2nd 2004. The instrument measures: height cm 100; max width cm 37; resonance chamber depth cm 10. Weight kg. 1,650.

This model is named Cląssico n° 28 and was built in the middle of the sixties. The age of this instrument can be deduced by the inner label, which is gold-color. This color was abandoned by Di Giorgio factory since the end of that decade. The instrument was skilfully restored in 2003 by Josč De Paula (maybe the best Di Giorgio's lutemaker), because it has some cracks on the harmonic board and its neck was broken. The harmonic board is made of Fir-wood, while the resonance chamber and the keyboard are made of Jacarandą (click on thumbnails to enlarge images and to see details). The neck is in Cedar. The hole is made precious by a national mosaic. The head has the classical carvings that characterize many Di Giorgio guitars. See the machine head and the particular three-leaved shape of the keys that was typical in that age. I bought this instrument on Dec, 6th 2003. The instrument measures: height cm 100; max width cm 37; resonance chamber depth cm 10. Weight kg. 1,500.

This model is named Estudante n° 18 and was built in the middle of the sixties. The age of this instrument can be deduced by the inner label, which is gold-color. This color was abandoned by Di Giorgio factory since the end of that decade. On the back you can see the factory's sign: "Romeo Di Giorgio - Sao Paulo". See also the machine head and the particular three-leaved shape of the keys that was typical in that age. This model of guitar had a huge diffusion in Brasil: the instrument is suitable both for beginners and advanced guitar players. It is considered an easy-to-play guitar, so that it's the favorite instrument for Brazilian musicians playing Bossanova and Samba in the "aulas da musica". I bought this instrument in January 2004 from an american collector. The instrument measures: height cm 99; max width cm 37; resonance chamber depth cm 10. Weight kg. 1,500.

This model is named Signorina n° 16 and was made in 1972. The age of this instrument can be deduced by the inner label which indicates, as usual, the year of production. The harmonic board is made of Fir-wood, while the resonance chamber and the neck are made of Jacarandą (click on thumbnails to enlarge images and to see details). The neck is in Cedar. The head, enriched by a double wood-colour, presents the classical Di Giorgio's encarving. It is hand-made, while on the recent instruments it is realized mechanically. The resonance chamber of this guitar is a little bit smaller than usual (more or less 1 cm). I bought this instrument in Belgium, on december 15th 2003, during an auction. The steel machine head, has rounded ambered keys. The instrument measures: height cm 99; max width cm 35; resonance chamber depth cm 10. Weight kg. 1,500.

Di Giorgio - Som d’Ouro Di Giorgio - Som d’Ouro Di Giorgio - Som d’Ouro Di Giorgio - Som d’Ouro Di Giorgio - Som d’Ouro

"Som d'Ouro" guitars aren't built any more since many years. It seems that in the past 'Som d'Ouro' Factory was acquired by 'Di Giorgio' Industry, but it kept on producing intruments, under the same brand, for several years. During the 70's and 80's, many 'Som d'Ouro' guitars were imported in Italy. Although their quality is lesser than 'Di Giorgio' instruments and finishing is not particulary accurate, 'Som d'Ouro' guitars own a good quality, warm sound. My instrument was made in 1977 and I bought it in 1996 when I started to approach brasilian music. The harmonic board (click on thumbnails to enlarge images and to see details) is made of Fir-wood, while the resonance chamber is made of Pau Ferro. The keyboard is in Jacarandą and the neck is in Cedar. The resonance chamber of this instrument is a little bit smaller than usual (more or less 1 cm). Such measures are the same that you can find in the Di Giorgio's models named Signorina n° 16. The particular detail which characterizes "Som d'Ouro" guitars, is the flowered inlay work on the head. The steel machine head, has rounded ambered keys. The instrument measures: height cm 99; max width cm 35; resonance chamber depth cm 10. Weight kg. 1,500.
