Ciao and welcome to my home-page. You are
reading the
english version of my beautiful home-page, estabilished 1998. Chances
are that I will entirely translate the italian version in English; in
the meanwhile here's the reduced version, containing the essential
MacMan: anyway that's more than you are interested to read!
Please note that this page is (or should be) a work
in progress!
My name is Marcello Mancini, I'm a 29 year old boy living in
Brescia, Italy.
My main interest is computer:
operating systems, programming, networking, things like these. I'm a
Linux beginner and fanatic, I like experimenting and messing around
with it; I like surfing the Web with my Firefox web-browser and reading
emails and Usenet newsgroups.
I got a degree in electronic engineering in October 2005, with
a
thesis
about Internet servers security. I worked on a system that used virtual
honeynets of SELinux-enabled Linux hosts to catch and stop
cracking attempts. Now I work as an ABAP programmer.
I like doing photos, though I'm one of the worst photographers in the
world. Recently I joined matgala
in a shared photoblog.
There you can admire my creations and have a glimpse of Italy: the nice
things, the not-so-nice things, and the funny things. And if you like
the idea of a shared photoblog, you can ask matgala to join it.

Last.fm's charts haven't worked very well lately. So if you can't see a music chart right above, you're better off visiting my account page over there. If you have an account, too, leave me a shout if you like!
You can find info about these and many other artists here:

Here's the link to my aNobii shelf.
It doesn't contain all my favorite books, but it's quite up-to-date
concerning what I'm reading right now and I've read in the past few
months.
Online comics
These are my favorite online comics, in order of appearance in my
bookmark collection:
You can write me at one of the following addresses:
macman_it@yahoo.it:
this
is my Yahoo! webmail address. It's very reliable, and I check it
regularly. So it's the best way to contact me for the first time. I
don't use the Yahoo! POP3
service, though, so the messages sent here aren't automagically
downloaded on my PC. Therefore, once a "connection" is "estabilished",
I'll use my other email account;
mac.mancini@inwind.it:
my official POP3 address. It's the best choice if you want to contact
me: I check it every time I connect to the Internet, I download emails
on my PC so I can read them and answer with calm, using my favourite
client. It's spam filtered. though, and it subject to the occasional
false positive: so there's a chance your message may be deleted by
mistake. That's why Yahoo is a better choice.
Why
should you contact me?
I'm always looking for pen-pals from all
over the
world. I'd like to exchange thoughts, learn about different cultures,
improve my English, and generally have some fun. As I have received some weird emails in the past, there are a few things I'd like to point out:
I'm NOT
looking for romance;
I'm not
going to meet you, host you, or do the tour guide around Italy for you;
I don't
have money, so don't ask me for it.
A word about the communication means. I don't
want to use the
snail mail (that is, the one that involves using the postal service)
for my regular corrispondence: it's slow, it can get lost, it takes
effort (and I'm lazy :-). I know receiving something in the mail-box is
nice, expecially if it comes from a distant place: I have nothing
against sending postcards or Christmas cards or the likes. But for
regular communication I will use email. I
have an instant messenger so I can use
that one, too, but I'm not the best chatter in the world, you've been
warned. ;-)
I know I may sound harsh but that's just to avoid
disappointment for me and you.
What can you find in
the full version of my home-page?
Nothing! :-)
Well, matter of fact there's something on the full, italian
version of my home-page. Here's a brief summary:
The very interesting story of my life so far. The way I
grew up in height and width, I was educated and I learned to dodge
speeding trucks, and how the italian government found out I'm a human
life form in 370 days... (Chi sono io?);
The music I like, and lyrics translated from English to
Italian (Musica);
Notes on (bad) programming in various languages (Pascal,
C++, ASM, Lisp) (Programmazione);
The videogames I like the most, and how (badly) I play them
(Giochi);
Funny phrases from my university teachers (I Fotoni): for
example the phrase that gives the title to this section is: "Il
fotone fischia forte" (raw, non-literal translation: The
photon goes very fast);
