Old Melito
Owing to of the earthquake of 21 Agosto 1962 the town
of Melito was rebuilt to a new place called Quarto Civico-Starze; all that beginned in 1969 and finished, approximately in 1976-77.
Consequently the old willage endured an inconceivable
degradation by
private citizen and above all by the administrators of the age; indeed a few days
before earthquake of 23 November 1980, was shot the film 'La Pelle' of
Liliana
Cavani, which that completed the work of the degradation in the
sense that ' was burned' those all that remained of the houses, of the castle and the church; the earthquake of the 80
then imposed the demolition of many
others houses. The ruins of the church, the bell tower and the
castle are the only memories of that old place.
