A dieci anni esatti dall'esordio dei Dream Theater
("When Dream And Day Unite", 1989) ecco spuntare all'improvviso
nella storia della musica una "pietra miliare": Scenes From A
Memory, concept album dalla trama molto articolata. "SFAM",
che porterà i Dream Theater a un vero e proprio successo su scala
mondiale, è un album pieno di novità: l' entrata nel gruppo del
nuovo tastierista Jordan Rudess, conosciuto durante le sessions di
"Liquid Tension Experiment"; il distacco di John Petrucci dalla
Ibanez e l' adozione di chitarre Ernie Ball/Music Man; la presenza
di una cantante femminile e di un coro Gospel. La storia narra di
un ragazzo dei nostri giorni che, perseguitato da delle visioni,
si rivolge ad un ipnoterapista, scoprendo così che una ragazza
(vissuta nei primi anni del '900) si é reincarnata in lui, dopo
essere stata uccisa dal fidanzato per motivi sentimentali e di
gelosia. Il finale ha diverse interpretazioni (quindi sta a voi
capire!). La storia é articolata in momenti del presente e
flashback che si alternano velocemente. Il suono é completamente
nuovo: curato nei minimi particolari (grazie a formidabili tecnici
del suono). |
