1. San Diego (1-15)
- Michael Vick - QB - Virginia Tech
The Chargers have gone through the
complete evaluation process and hope to have an agreement with Vick this
week. He is a terrific prospect for the position with rare mobility and
running skills and a very strong arm. He is inexperienced as a pocket passer
and will benefit from playing behind veteran scrambler Doug Flutie. He
will also benefit greatly with working with new offensive coordinator Norv
Turner who has been instrumental in the development of several star passers,
including Troy Aikman. Alternative Pick: None
2. Arizona (3-13) - Justin Smith
- DE - Missouri
The Cardinals will most likely trade
back and have received an offer from the Packers who hold the 10th overall
selection. The Cards have many needs, especially along their front four.
If they stay put, they would opt for DE Justin Smith instead of a tackle
because the tackle class is much deeper and they can address that area
later on the first day. The Packers are willing to flip spots but will
not offer next year's top pick. They have offered a No. 2 pick plus a player
and middle round selections. Alternative Pick: DT Gerard Warren
3. Cleveland (3-13) - David Terrell
- WR - Michigan
The Browns have blown a lot of smoke
about this selection. They have targeted wideout David Terrell since day
one and are praying the Cards do not get the deal done with the Packers.
Terrell's foot problem will not need an operation. He has big-time ability
and a player with the complete package to make an immediate impact working
with young QB Tim Couch. Alternative Pick: DE Justin Smith
4. Cincinnati (4-12) - Leonard
Davis - OT - Texas
The Bengals are looking for a bookend
tackle opposite right OT Willie Anderson. Davis will be hard to pass on
at this spot and gives them a player who is ready to come in and start
as a rookie. His high level of development could be the catalyst for young
QB Akili Smith to finally put it all together. Alternative Pick:
WR David Terrell
5. Atlanta (4-12) - Koren Robinson
- WR - North Carolina State
The Falcons are looking for an impact
player for their struggling offense. Robinson gives them a legitimate deep
threat to stretch the defense. His poor late workout is a concern, but
he has the tools to become a top NFL playmaker. Alternative Pick:
OT Leonard Davis
6. New England (5-11) - Gerard
Warren - DT - Florida
The Patriots have also talked about
moving back, but have become endeared with either Warren or Walker at this
spot. Warren gives them an anchor in the middle for Belichick to center
his defense around. Walker is a bookend tackle who is capable of elevating
the line play significantly. Alternative Pick: OT Kenyatta Walker
7. Seattle (From Dallas) - Rod
Gardner - WR - Clemson
The Seahawks are looking for playmakers
on their front four and at wide receiver. They expect to land both needs
with two No. 1 picks. Gardner is a fast-rising player who combines fine
size and athleticisim with good speed and playmaking ability. They are
hoping Koren Robinson slides to this pick. Alternative Pick: WR Koren
Robinson
8. CHICAGO BEARS - (5-11) - LaDainian
Tomlinson - RB - TCU
The Bears are looking to add a feature
back early in the draft and have earmarked Tomlinson as their guy. He impressed
them at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine and gives them a player to build
an offense around. Alternative Pick: DL Richard Seymour
9. San Francisco (6-10) - Dan
Morgan - LB - Miami (Fla.)
The 49ers are attempting to trade
back for additional top 50 picks with both the Jaguars and Redskins talking
to them at this point. The Niners love Morgan because he can be plugged
in immediately in their defense as a starter. There is a possibility they
could still land him with a trade back to the Jaguars. A defensive end
would also be a high priority at this spot with Jamal Reynolds or Richard
Seymour most likely. Alternative Pick: DE Jamal Reynolds
10. Green Bay (From Seattle) -
Jamal Reynolds - DE - Florida State
Packers GM Ron Wolf is looking to
finish his career in personnel with a splash. He wants to give Brett Favre
a home-run hitter and will attempt to pull off the trade with the Cardinals
for the 2nd overall pick to land wideout David Terrell. He will not though,
relinquish next year's top selection to get it done. With no trade, they
will consider the highest rated wideout and defensive linemen here with
wideouts Rod Gardner and Chad Johnson and DL Richard Seymour and Marcus
Stroud strong possibilities. Alternative Pick: WR Rod Gardner
11. Carolina (7-9) - Deuce McAllister
- RB - Mississippi
The Panthers need a feature back
to couple with Tim Biakabutuka who has been injury prone throughout his
career. McAllister has had his own injury history which makes him a risky
pick. They are interested in linebackers and corners and Dan Morgan is
a strong possibility if he is on the board. Alternative Pick: LB
Dan Morgan
12. Kansas City (7-9) - Richard
Seymour - DT - Georgia
The Chiefs have several major needs
including running back, quarterback and defensive line. They are hoping
for one of the premier tailbacks here, QB Drew Brees or one of the top
defensive tackles -- Richard Seymour or Marcus Stroud. It could all be
academic if they trade this pick for veteran QB Trent Green. Alternative
Pick: RB Deuce McAllister
13. Jacksonville (7-9) - Kenyatta
Walker - OT - Florida
The Jaguars love Kenyatta Walker
and are willing to trade up several spots to secure him. He is the perfect
fit for their right side tackle spot which protects QB Mark Brunell's blindside.
At this spot, Walker will most likely be gone which could force them to
select either Michigan linemen -- tackle Jeff Backus or guard Steve Hutchinson.
Alternative Pick: G Steve Hutchinson
14. Buffalo (8-8) - Steve Hutchinson
- G - Michigan
New Bills GM Tom Donahoe is back
in the saddle after a short absence from the top post. He is as good a
talent evaluator as their is in the NFL. The Bills have several pressing
needs especially on both lines. Hutchinson would be an instant starter
on a shaky offensive line, replacing the departed Joe Panos. They also
will give DT Marcus Stroud strong consideration here. Stroud would be an
excellent replacement and new anchor in the middle for departed Ted Washington.
Alternative Pick: DT Marcus Stroud
15. Washington (8-8) - Chad Johnson
- WR - Oregon State
The Redskins have several major
needs at wideout and guard and only four total draft picks. They are looking
for speed on the outside and may have their choice of Rod Gardner, Chad
Johnson and Santana Moss. Johnson gives them a legitimate deep threat opposite
Michael Westbrook. Moss is a possibility here. A surprise pick could be
guard Steve Hutchinson if he is not chosen earlier. Alternative Pick:
WR Santana Moss
16. Pittsburgh (9-7) - Marcus
Stroud - DT - Georgia
The Steelers have several pressing
needs on their once powerful defense. They need an anchor in the middle
and Marcus Stroud would be a sound pick here. They also are looking for
their QB of the future after passing on Chad Pennington last year. They
could select Drew Brees here and come back in the deep tackle class in
round two. Alternative Pick: QB Drew Brees
17. Seattle (From Green Bay) -
Andre Carter - DE - California
The Seahawks will address their
front four early in the draft despite several free-agent additions. If
one of the top three ends slides to this spot, they most likely will jump
on him. They will consider a top cornerback here with Smoot and Clements
getting strong consideration. Alternative Pick: CB Fred Smoot
18. Detroit (9-7) - Drew Brees
- QB - Purdue
The Lions will not hestiate to select
Brees if he is on the board after continued injury problems with Charlie
Batch. They would love to draft guard Hutchinson but he is most likely
gone. A defensive linemen will get a lot of consideration here with Damione
Lewis and Shaun Rogers the highest rated. Alternative Pick: DT Damione
Lewis
19. New York Jets (9-7) - Santana
Moss - WR - Miami (Fla.)
The Jets are looking for a playmaking
at wide receiver and in the return game and Moss meets both needs. They
will most likely have their choice of Moss, Chad Johnson or Reggie Wayne
here. They are moving to a 4-3 defensive set and will also consider a DT
here with Damione Lewis the highest rated prospect. Alternative Pick:
WR Chad Johnson
20. St. Louis (10-6) - Damione
Lewis - DT - Miami (Fla.)
The Rams' defensive front seven
has many needs and they most likely will address them early and often.
Lewis would be an excellent addition to the inside providing the quickness
to make plays sideline to sideline. Alternative Pick: DT Shaun Rogers
21. Tampa Bay (10-6) - Jeff Backus
- OT - Michigan
The Buccaneers are hoping one of
the top offensive tackles falls to them and Backus is the third highest
rated prospect. He will most likely be available here and is a well-developed
prospect who can start as a rookie. They will consider a receiver here
and look to add a speedy receiver like Freddie Mitchell. Alternative
Pick: WR Freddie Mitchell
22. Indianapolis (10-6) - Fred
Smoot - CB - Mississippi State
The Colts are focusing on cover
men and front four defenders with this pick. Smoot is the best pure cover
man in this draft class and would be a fine addition for their secondary.
They will also consider either DTs Damione Lewis or Shaun Rogers at this
spot. Alternative Pick: DT Damione Lewis
23. New Orleans (10-6) - Nate
Clements - CB - Ohio State
The Saints are in an interesting
spot with clear needs at cornerback and tight end. Their defense has needs
in the secondary with corner a high priority. They could surprise and select
TE Todd Heap who would give them another weapon for their passing game.
Alternative Pick: TE Todd Heap
24. Denver (11-5) - Todd Heap
- TE - Arizona State
The Broncos' offense would benefit
greatly from the addition of Heap. He has the speed and receiving skills
to give them a dimension they have not had since Shannon Sharpe left. They
will also continue to rebuild a defense that is undergoing major changes
this offseason. Alternative Pick: CB Nate Clements
25. Philadelphia (11-5) - LaMont
Jordan - RB - Maryland
The Eagles will most likely add
a skill position player here with wide receiver a top priority. If there
is a run on wideouts before their pick they could opt for running back
LaMont Jordan or Michael Bennett here. Jordan would be an excellent compliment
for Duce Staley. The highest rated receiver on the board here would most
likely be Reggie Wayne who is one of the more developed receivers in this
class. Alternative Pick: WR Reggie Wayne
26. Miami (11-5) - Freddie Mitchell
- WR - UCLA
The Dolphins are looking to draft
into the deep receiving class with this selection. Either Freddie Mitchell,
Quincy Morgan or Reggie Wayne would be an excellent fit here. Wayne is
well developed and could start as a rookie. Alternative Pick: WR
Quincy Morgan
27. Minnesota (11-5) - Will Allen
- CB - Syracuse
The Vikings have many major needs
with the secondary a high priority. They will give Allen, Smoot or Middlebrooks
strong consideration here. Allen is a fast-rising prospect with the best
speed at the position. Alternative Pick: CB Willie Middlebrooks
28. Oakland (12-4) - Derrick Gibson
- S - Florida State
The Raiders will entertain both
safeties Gibson and Archuleta. They are hoping one of the premier receivers
falls to this pick but that is a longshot. They would love to trade up
and beat the Broncos to Todd Heap and have spoken to both the Bucs and
Saints. Alternative Pick: SS Adam Archuleta
29. St. Louis (From Tennessee)
- DeLawrence Grant - DE - Oregon State
The Rams have major holes along
their front four and may address them twice in the first round. Grant is
the fourth highest rated DE on many boards and one of the fastest rising
players in this draft class. He could fill the spot vacated by the traded
Kevin Carter. Alternative Pick: DT Shaun Rogers
30. New York Giants (12-4) - Ken
Lucas - CB - Mississippi
The Giants should be able to select
a top cover man here with Lucas, Willie Middlebrooks and possibly Will
Allen available. Lucas is a solid prospect and worthy of this selection.
They could surprise and select a receiver like Reggie Wayne if Ike Hilliard's
neck problems are career threatening. Alternative Pick: CB Will Allen
31. Baltimore (12-4) - Adam Archuleta
- S - Arizona State
The Ravens lost both Rod Woodson
and Kim Herring from their Super Bowl defense and Archuleta is a hard-nosed
defender who would be an excellent addition to their awesome defense. They
would love to select Todd Heap but he has become one of the fastest rising
players in this class. Alternative Pick: C Dominic Raiola

- Miami (Fla.)
Chargers need a young reliable receiver
