49ers Clubhouse Best Defensive Tackles
By Robert

Wendell Bryant
Wisconsin
2001: 69 tkl 17 tfl 8 sack
Comments: A very quick player with an amazing ability to beat double teams. Has great balance and footwork. Could play DE. His work ethic may be a problem for some, but it isn’t a major issue. He keeps his body low and should be a dangerous weapon in the NFL.
Dorsett Davis
Mississippi St.
2001: 24 tkl 4 tfl 1 sack
HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in football, basketball, track Comments: A great pass and run defender. A physical player with large arms, which is a major positive for NFL scouts. Can’t finish the game on the field which will lower his prospects, but still a prospect that with the right training could be one to watch in the future.
Nate Dwyer
Kansas
2001:51 tkl 9 tfl 3 sack
Comments: Strong, a great run stopper, good technique and nice footwork. But has many downsides. He isn’t physical, a timid pursuer and hasn’t got great instincts.
Eddie Freeman
Birmingham
2001: 55 tkl 10 tfl 3 sack
HIGH SCHOOL: Played DE and TE Comments: A versatile player, who can play any where on the DL. Has great instincts and has nice lateral movement. What hurts him is that he is a very weak tackler and isn’t as fast as he should be. If he can improve those two areas he’ll be a nice addition to any team.
Alan Harper
Fresno St.
2001: 56 tkl 20 tfl 12 sack
Comments: A big run stopper and is a big game player. Moves well and can tackle very well. His size hurts his prospects. Also needs to work on his technique.
Albert Haynesworth
Tennessee JUNIOR
2001: 16 tkl 6 tfl 1 sack
HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in football and track. All-American Comments: Is a big DT, with big arms and is very quick for his size. A good pass rusher. Many scouts have said the Haynesworth has outplayed John Henderson last year. His weakness may be that he has only started one year.
John Henderson
Tennessee
2001: 30 tkl 7 tfl 4 sack
Comments: The top DT in the draft and will go very early. Has great leadership ability, is very big and has great speed for such a big guy. May be a bit injury prone and has small technical problem, but that can be easy sought out once he’s in the pros.
Ryan Sims
North Carolina
2001: 43 tkl 8 tfl 5 sack
Comments: Another good run defender and has drastically improved on his pass rushing ability. Has outstanding play recognition as well. Needs to hit the weights and improve his strength, but he is a player who still has a lot of improvement to go.
Larry Tripplett
Washington
2001: 38 tkl 14 tfl 2 sack
HIGH SCHOOL: Played LB and FB Comments: His size will make his stock drop, but teams that rule him out due to his size will be missing a great player. He plays big, very quick, has nice balance, great pursuer, good instincts and will be a great pick up for the team that’s lucky enough to get him. |
